In 1986, as part of the Operations Program, there was the Subprogram of Surveillance and Protection, consisting of park rangers. At that time, various tasks were managed, including preventing disturbances or destruction of the Park’s flora and fauna, removing illegal dumps within the protected area (along the main avenues), fire prevention, and monitoring the facilities managed by the Park administration. These tasks were carried out in collaboration with the park rangers from INRENARE.

In 1999, this subprogram was transformed into the Protection Unit. Then, in 2006, it evolved into the Environmental Protection Area, and subsequently, in 2008, it became the Environmental Protection Department, a name that remains in use to this day.
